Avoid fake job offers
Job scams are common in India, especially offers that arrive on WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS. Genuine employers follow a few simple rules. If an offer breaks any of them, stop and check.
Warning signs
- You are asked to pay a registration fee, security deposit, training fee or for a "joining kit".
- You get an offer letter without any interview.
- The recruiter uses a Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook address instead of the company's domain.
- You are asked for your bank OTP, UPI PIN, Aadhaar or PAN before an offer.
- The pay sounds too good for the work, such as earning thousands a day for liking videos or rating products.
- You are pushed to decide within hours.
How to check a job
- Find the role on the company's own careers site. On Jobs Hindustan, the apply button always takes you there.
- Check the email domain matches the company's website.
- Search the company name with "fraud" or "scam".
If you have been targeted
Report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call the helpline 1930. If you sent money, call your bank immediately.
