Work-from-home roles are some of the most searched jobs in India, and also the most abused by scammers. Genuine remote jobs exist at large companies, but they look very different from the "earn ₹5,000 a day from your phone" messages you may receive.
Remote, hybrid and on-site
- Remote: you can work from home or anywhere the employer allows, usually within India. You may still need to visit an office occasionally.
- Hybrid: you split your week between home and an office, often two or three days in the office. You need to live within reach of that office.
- On-site: you work from the employer's office or site every day.
Always check which one a job is before applying. On Jobs Hindustan, remote roles are marked "Remote" and listed on the work-from-home jobs page.
Roles that are often remote
Software engineering, data and analytics, product design, technical writing, customer support for global products, sales development and some finance and operations roles are most often offered remotely. Companies built around remote work, especially software and SaaS firms, hire for many of these.
Signs of a genuine remote job
- It is listed on the company's own careers site, which is where every Jobs Hindustan apply button takes you.
- There is a proper application, followed by interviews on video with named people.
- The offer comes by email from the company's domain and states salary, benefits and your employer's legal name.
- The company provides or reimburses equipment rather than asking you to buy it from them.
Warning signs of a scam
- You are contacted out of the blue on WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS with a job you never applied for.
- The "job" is liking videos, rating products, writing reviews or completing "tasks" for commission.
- You are asked to pay a deposit, registration fee or "upgrade" fee, or to invest money to unlock higher earnings.
- You are asked for your bank OTP, UPI PIN or card details.

Set yourself up to work from home
- A reliable internet connection with a backup, such as a mobile hotspot.
- A quiet space for calls, and a headset with a good microphone.
- Clarity on working hours. Global teams may need some overlap with other time zones, so ask about it in the interview.
